AI-Powered Legal Search Prototype for Tax Law
A tax advisory firm wanted to move away from tedious manual processes and embrace automation to meet modern legal demands. Netguru helped design and deliver an AI-powered prototype that assists lawyers in navigating legal complexity, ensuring speed, accuracy, and compliance.

Client
Our client was an established law firm specializing in tax advisory and restructuring processes for commercial law companies. The client offers strategic guidance on mergers, divisions, and corporate transformations, providing tailored, executable legal solutions.

Challenge
The client wanted to enhance internal efficiency and reduce human error in handling large volumes of legal documents—particularly court rulings in the area of tax law. Their aim was to automate the time-consuming legal research processes traditionally performed by interns and junior associates.
Key objectives included:
- Automating the analysis of legal inquiries and court decisions
- Ensuring correct attribution of legal sources and data compliance
- Delivering faster, more accurate insights to legal analysts
- Developing a solution that could adapt to ongoing legislative changes
- Building trust and providing tech guidance, as this was their first AI-driven project

Project Journey
The project began with a scoping phase, where Netguru’s team worked closely with the client to define the prototype’s goals, legal context, and expected outcomes.
The solution had to meet rigorous requirements around accuracy, scalability, and data sensitivity, all within a tight 6–8 week timeframe.
We designed a prototype AI system focused on automating the search and analysis of tax-related court rulings across areas like VAT, CIT, and PIT.
The tool parses and compares client legal inquiries against a growing database of over 100,000 rulings to return the most relevant precedents.
The system acts as a decision-support tool, not a replacement for lawyers. It empowers legal professionals with structured insights—speeding up the response process while maintaining high standards of legal accuracy.

Technology Stack
- OpenAI: Used to power the core natural language processing engine for understanding and reasoning over legal texts
- AWS: Provided scalable cloud infrastructure and security for handling sensitive legal data
- Python: Used for backend logic, data handling, and ML model integration
- Custom ML Models: Tailored specifically to handle legal tax inquiries and reasoning
- DevOps Tooling: Ensured a reliable and maintainable prototype development pipeline

Results
In just a few weeks, the prototype delivered tangible results across multiple performance and business metrics:
- A significant reduction in manual document analysis time, freeing up legal teams to focus on strategic decision-making
- Improved accuracy in identifying relevant court rulings and legal precedents
- Full compliance with data security protocols, a key concern for the client
- Correct legal source attribution, which is crucial in building legal arguments and documentation
- Flexibility and scalability to handle increasing volumes of legal data
